Real Estate Agents

A real estate agent is a person licensed to negotiate and transact the sale of real estate, on behalf of the property owner. A real estate agent must pass a certification course and state or provincial examination, which covers the legal aspects of real property. A real estate agent must also pass a background check, in order to become licensed. He or she must also satisfy a certain number of hours of additional training each year, in order to maintain his or her license. To avoid conflicts of interest, buyers and sellers will usually each have their own real estate agents. Each agent charges a commission for his or her services (a small percentage of the sale price).
