  Cord Blood

Cord blood is the blood present in the umbilical cord of newborn babies. Ordinarily, the remnant blood is discarded after the birth of the baby. Cord blood contains stem cells that are used for transplantation and research. An umbilical cord blood bank is a special type of tissue bank that collects, processes and freezes blood remaining in the umbilical cord after the birth of a baby.
